DR. CHRIS WARD

Dr. Chris Ward has over 27 years of experience in industry working in the field of advanced antenna processing technology. In 1978 he joined the STL research labs located in Harlow UK, later to become one of Nortel's key research facilities. In the early stages of his career at the Harlow Labs Chris was involved in the innovation and development of high performance adaptive antenna systems for GPS and military communications and radar systems. During this early period he led pioneering work on novel systolic array processing architectures for digital beamforming applications.
For the past 12 years Chris has focused on the application of smart antenna technologies to cellular/PCS systems. He has been involved in a detailed technical capacity in the development of smart antenna concepts for GSM, N.A. TDMA, CDMA, UMTS and OFDM systems. Up until the end of 2004 Chris was the senior manager in charge of Nortel's advanced wireless technology team at the Harlow Labs responsible for MIMO and smart antenna technology, antenna design and propagation modeling/trials. Chris has been responsible for numerous patent applications and is the author of wide range of journal publications and conference papers in his field of work.
Chris holds a B.Sc.(Eng) in Electronic Engineering and Ph.D from University College, London. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and sits on the peer review college for the UK government Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council.
